The Illinois State Board of Education’s 2021-23 strategic plan serves as a roadmap for public education as the state recovers from the global pandemic. The plan was developed prior to the pandemic and deeply revised in September 2020 to reflect the state’s shift in priorities and sense of urgency to recover any learning that had been lost. The strategies that frame the state’s plan were developed in partnership with key education stakeholders from around the state and deeply informed by their input and feedback to ensure that the plan is responsive to the needs of every student. The plan is built around three overarching goals, all underpinned by equity: student learning, learning conditions, and elevating educators. These goals are held together by equity, quality, collaboration, and community, the four principles that guide ISBE’s work and reflect the state’s commitment to pursue educational equity for every student.
